Camp Rosenbaum Fund 2019

It’s all about the kids!

In June we partnered with the Portland Police Bureau to host the Rosenbaum PPB Youth Camp. This week-long camp at Parkrose High School reached nearly 300 boys and girls this year! Campers had a chance to participate in one of 15 activities, including soccer, dance, archery, crazy science and more! Each activity included coaches from the Portland Police Bureau, Gresham Police Department, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department, and other organizations, giving kids a chance to get to know the officers who keep their community safe.

In July we celebrated our 49th year of Camp Rosenbaum, welcoming 153 boys and girls to Camp Rilea on the Oregon Coast. Camp Rosenbaum provides a unique summer camp experience for boys and girls who live in low-income housing in Oregon and SW Washington. For 121 of them, this was their first time at an overnight camp – and we filled the week with plenty more new experiences! Campers took trips to the ocean, rode horses, went fishing and so much more! This year our campers ventured to Maritime Museum for a field trip and to Sunset Beach for our annual sandcastle contest.

As always, we had an extraordinary volunteer staff – police officers, members of the Oregon National Guard, firefighters and staff from housing authorities – who worked every day to emphasize the importance of staying in school and remind campers that they have the power to shape their future.

In August we once again supported Shop with a Cop, through the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division and the Izzy’s Kids program. The event paired 275 children with local cops to go back to school shopping at Fred Meyer. Children were able to purchase supplies, clothes and shoes. Each child also received a new backpack, to get their school year started off right.

And the Camp Rosenbaum Star Fund keeps rolling! We currently have 195 former campers from Multnomah County enrolled in our education grant fund, saving money for their future.  When campers graduate from high school, they can use funds to further their education.  Camp Rosenbaum is excited to help kids plan for their future and aim for the stars!

All this in one year! How did we do it?
