Camp Rosenbaum Fund 2016

What an amazing year it’s been!

In June we partnered with the Portland Police Bureau to host the Rosenbaum Portland Youth Camp.  This week-long camp at Centennial High School offered more than 350 boys and girls a chance to participate in one of fourteen activities, including soccer, basketball, martial arts, journalism and more!  Each activity included coaches from the Portland Police Bureau, Gresham Police Department, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department, and other organizations, giving kids a chance to get to know the officers who keep their community safe.

In July we celebrated our 46th year of Camp Rosenbaum, welcoming 158 boys and girls to Camp Rilea on the Oregon Coast. Campers spent the week swimming in the ocean, touring Fort Stevens, building sand castles and making friends.  We had extraordinary volunteer staff – police officers, members of the Oregon National Guard, firefighters and staff from housing authorities – who worked every day to emphasize the importance of staying in school and remind campers that they have the power to shape their future.

In August we once again supported Shop with a Cop, through the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division and the Izzy’s Kids program.  The event paired 250 children with local cops to go back to school shopping at Fred Meyer.  Children were able to purchase supplies, clothes and shoes.  Each child also received a new backpack, to get their school year started off right.

And finally, we are proud to announce the launch of Camp Rosenbaum’s Star Fund.  We have partnered with Home Forward to reach out to 81 campers who joined us this year from Multnomah County.  These campers will have the opportunity to enroll in this new educational grant fund, which sets aside money for participants for each year of school they complete.  Upon high school graduation, campers can use funds to further their education. Camp Rosenbaum is excited to help kids plan for their future and aim for the stars!

In all, we served more than 750 children in 2016, through a combined 28,000 volunteer hours.  We are proud of the work we do, our supporters, and our amazing volunteers.  It’s all about the kids!
